Tigers win 14 - 12

An overcast day saw both Glasgow teams start their 2007/08 campaigns, with both teams showing obvious signs of rust and rookie mistakes on both sides of the ball. Lots of fumbles and penetration of both lines saw a tense match that never really got going, despite moments of brilliance from both teams.
GCU started the brighter, with some strong outside runs and play-action passing moving the chains well and capped it off with an early touchdown from Jamie McLoughlin on a 28 yard reverse. The 2PAT was no good.
Glasgow struck back immediately, however, with some good running from the tandem of Matt Burke and Ronald 'Pebbles' Gaffin and an athletic catch from veteran receiver Grant McAuslan working the ball upfield. It was Gaffin who put the ball in the endzone to tie things up, with a tackle-breaking 24 yard run. Again, the 2PAT was no good.
Glasgow looked to have taken the lead at the end of the 1st quarter when Gaffin took a punt return 63 yards to the GCU endzone, but it was brought back for a penalty on an illegal block.
The 2nd and 3rd quarters were defensive battles characterised by offensive miscues and turnovers with neither team managing to gain any consistence.
The game came to life in the 4th quarter when a Glasgow mistake left GCU with 1st and Goal and after a tough defensive stand, the Roughriders were finally able to break into the endzone with a quarterback sneak.
However, that was all Glasgow needed to wake them up and after another Gaffin return bringing them to midfield, Matt Burke broke a 32 yard TD run and added the 2PAT himself for the go-ahead score.
After going 3 and out, the Roughriders were given hope when they immediately recovered a Glasgow fumble, but the Tiger defense held firm, driving them back and closing out the game.
